The United Embassy in Kenya issued a demonstration alert to its citizens that there were planned protests on Thursday, July 11.

According to the Embassy, the demonstrations are expected to happen in multiple cities across Kenya.

Despite President William Ruto calling for dialogue with aggrieved Kenyans, the Embassy noted that calls for anti-government protests still continued.

The US revealed that they had intelligence reports that some protestors were planning to block major roads during the demonstrations.

“Even protests that seem peaceful can turn violent at any moment.  Traffic disruptions and delays can be expected,” US citizens were warned.

As such, American citizens in Kenya were asked to monitor local media for highway and road conditions before travelling.

For safety reasons, the US citizens were further advised to avoid crowds and keep doors locked and windows rolled up while in a vehicle.

“Notify friends and family of your whereabouts and safety,” US citizens planning to visit Nairobi and other parts of the country were told.

While President William Ruto has promised all Kenyan residents security during any demonstrations, the US Embassy revealed that it was prudent for its citizens to review personal security plans.

“Carry a copy of your U.S. passport with your current Kenyan visa,” US citizens were further advised by their government.

Multiple countries including Australia, Russia, Ukraine and the United Kingdom have also been warning their citizens about the Kenyan demonstrations.

The protests started in June as opposition to the Finance Bill, 2024 but have since mutated to general dissatisfaction with the current nation's political leadership.
