The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has issued a public appeal for witness accounts concerning the fatal shooting of Rex Masai on 20th June 2024.
Masai, a protester in his late 20s, was allegedly killed by a police bullet in the Nairobi Central Business District.
IPOA's plea comes as part of their ongoing investigations into the incident that has sparked widespread outrage and calls for police accountability.
In an official statement published on their social media platforms, IPOA emphasized the importance of eyewitness testimonies tracking down the shooter of the young man.
"IPOA appeals for witness accounts from anyone who may have witnessed the fatal shooting of Mr. Rex Masai on 20th June 2024, to volunteer information to advance its investigations. This information will help to not only bring closure to the family and friends but also contribute to police accountability," the statement read.

The tragic event unfolded during a protest within the Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD).
According to multiple reports, the incident occurred at around 7pm when a plain-clothed officer was caught on camera firing at protesters.
The shooting took place as law enforcement officers were attempting to disperse the protesters who wanted MPs to shoot down the now-withdrawn Finance Bill, 2024.
Rex Masai, identified as the victim, was reportedly shot in the thighs. Witnesses who rushed him to a nearby medical facility confirmed that he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Preliminary medical examinations corroborate that Masai was hit by a bullet, leading to his untimely death.
The shooting, captured on video, circulated widely, prompting a surge of public and media scrutiny.
