Azimio La Umoja coalition leader Raila Odinga on Saturday, July 13, called for immediate action following the mysterious death of more than 10 people whose bodies were found dumped at a pit in Mukuru Kwa Njenga in Nairobi.

Taking to his X account, the former Prime Minister called on the government to launch a probe and bring to book the perpetrators of the heinous act.

While announcing his stance on the matter, Raila condoled with the families of the deceased stating the Mukuru incident pained him deeply.

"It’s a sad and dark moment for Kenya, what we have witnessed in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, pains me deeply," the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader said.

According to Raila, the people of Kenya demanded accountability from the government.

"To the families who have lost loved ones, accept my deepest condolences. The perpetrators of these and other heinous acts must face the full force of the law immediately," Odinga commented.

Raila's sentiments come hours after the Director of Public Prosecution, Renson Ingonga directed the interim Inspector General, Douglas Kanja to swiftly probe the incident where several mutilated female bodies were recovered at a dumpsite in Mukuru.

Kanja was directed to conduct a thorough investigation and forward the resultant file within 21 days for further action.

Similarly, the ODPP ordered the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNHCR) and the Independent Policing and Oversight Authority (IPOA) to expedite investigations on the matter and submit reports for review every seven days.

While ordering investigations, the ODPP expressed deep concern about the incident and termed it as a grave violation of Human Rights.

"Civil Society Organizations and any person with information that may aid the investigative authorities in these cases are urged to cooperate with the government to help bring perpetrators to justice," read part of the statement by ODPP.

"This office shall also work tirelessly with relevant government agencies to address concerns of witnesses including their safety."
