Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki on Sunday urged President William Ruto to reconsider appointing immediate former Interior Cabinet Secretary Kindiki Kithure to his new cabinet.

Njuki, the Tharaka Nithi County boss, lauded the former CS for recording what he described as 'exemplary performance' in the Interior docket in the 21 months he served.

Speaking at PCEA Rubate in Chuka, the governor revealed that everyone in the county including the political class had decided to rally behind Kindiki who was dismissed as President William Ruto dissolved his cabinet earlier in the week.

While making his remarks, Njuki took a swipe at Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga whom he claimed had been targeting Kindiki in the recent past.

"Yesterday I heard the opposition leader (Raila) saying that Kindiki should be prosecuted. We are kindly asking him to leave Kindiki alone, there is nothing wrong he has done, he has never been found guilty of any offence or charged in any court of law."

This came after Raila, while addressing a congregation in Kakamega on Saturday, called for the prosecution of Kindiki over recent reported cases of deaths, excessive force by law enforcement personnel and abductions linked to the recent anti-government protests.

Njuki argued that Kindiki discharged his mandate as per the constitution and thus should not be singled out.

He further welcomed the call for an all-inclusive reconstitution of the cabinet.

The Tharaka Nithi governor urged the President to consider Tharaka Nithi while reorganising the cabinet. Njuki argued that the Ministry of Interior docket should still be assigned to a resident of the region.

"We have discussed as local leaders, clergy, and Members of the County Assembly and we have all agreed that it is only Kindiki who can be reappointed to the Interior Ministry docket."

Njuki further committed his full support to the  President as the Head of State initiates reforms to resuscitate the economy.

According to Governor Njuki, President Ruto is keen on setting Kenya's economy on the right trajectory hence his decision to throw his weight behind the president.

This comes days after President William Ruto dismissed the Cabinet save for Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to pave the way for the formation of a “broad-based Government”.

The President said he acted after an extensive appraisal of the Cabinet's performance.

He later vowed to consult different sectors and political formations to identify those who would assist him in accelerating Kenya’s transformation.
