On Wednesday, traders in Kitengela, Kajiado County lamented the losses incurred following Tuesday's demonstrations.
While speaking to the press, the business owners complained that these were longer protests but lawlessness hindering businesses.
Additionally, the traders condemned the behaviour of some protestors who broke into closed shops stealing valuables worth millions.
One of the traders who ran a liquor store in the area revealed that he lost approximately Ksh50 million after protestors stole expensive liquor bottles.
"These are no longer protests; they are burglary and have destroyed our businesses. We are here working to feed our children," one of the traders lamented.
The traders complained that during the protests, they were forced to close down their shops only to find them broken into.
Following this destruction of property, the traders called for more orderlienes in the protests and asked police officers to deal with some rogue individuals who were infiltrating the peaceful protests and causing chaos.
"We ask our government to protect us, we should be guarded and ensure orderliness no property is destroyed like it happened yesterday," another trader remarked.
During the protests, some of the protestors engaged police in running battles while some pelted stones at the officers. Some of these stones hit businesses resulting in further damage.
Additionally, the demonstrators also lit tyres blocking roads and destroying public property. This also hindered movement in the area.
Kitengela was among the towns where violence was witnessed on Tuesday during the anti-government protests. In other areas such as Kakamega town, some protesters were seen breaking into a local petrol station and stealing gas cylinders.
