The Pastor, at the Chosen Generation Church in Nakuru, Reverend Patriciah Benson has recounted a harrowing ordeal after police officers stormed the church on Tuesday.
Patriciah who was speaking to journalists on Thursday reported being in the middle of prayers when they heard the ring of gunshots a few meters away from the church.
However within a few minutes of hearing the gunshots, a group of police officers waltzed into the church.
According to the Pastor, the Church’s location is on the first floor of a building in the hub of Nakuru town, hence the targeting by the police officers.
While narrating the ordeal, the Pastor stated the officers walked in and ordered everyone to lie on the floor while ransacking the church premises.
“They came in and ordered all of us to lie on the ground, we all thought it wasn’t serious until they started shooting,” she narrated.
Furthermore, the Pastor narrated that the officers tried to flush out some of the members of the church’s media team who were enclosed in a room.
“We started hearing sounds of whips renting the air, it was then that the media team informed the police that that’s the church’s media room, they only left after they saw the media equipment,” she explained.
Rev. Patriciah further stated that several people were roughed up and whipped before being forced out of the church.
The incident which left the congregants shaken has been condemned by the church stating that it was an abuse of power by the police.
According to the Reverend, Tuesday’s event was termed as a display of police brutality to the masses following the use of live bullets and whipping the congregants.
“Why shoot live bullets and beat people in our church, we had our normal lunch hour service. Rev Patricia Benson was praying for members. As the Bishop of Chosen Generation Church I condemn this act of excessive use of force by the police,” stated Bishop Ben.
