Youthful Protesters Storm Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo’s Office Over Mismanagement

A group of youthful demonstrators on Friday, July 12, stormed Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo’s office accusing him of mismanaging county funds meant for development.

The protesters, who were mostly students from Technical Training Institutes within the county, hoisted placards and twigs and marched to the governor’s office.

Upon arrival, the protesters decided to camp outside the governor's office while others attempted to force their way into the governor's premises.

However, security officers who were on high alert quickly intervened and stopped the protesters who had begun climbing up the perimeter wall that surrounds Ottichilo's office.

The youths faulted the Vihiga county government for mismanaging funds meant to improve the state of the institutes.

While expressing their fury, they demanded the governor to address their demands failure to which they vowed to break into his office.

In the videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the protesters could be heard chanting the governor's name as they demanded his audience.

Adamant about their pursuit, the protesting youths vowed to spend the entire day outside Ottichilo's office until he addressed their plea.

In an analogous situation on Thursday noon, protesters staged demonstrations along the streets of Bomet town as they demanded the immediate ouster of Governor Hillary Barchok.

The demonstrators lit a bone fire along the main highway that leads to the town, paralyzing the transport system, and forcing most businesses to close.

The residents accused Barchok of incompetence and failing to fulfil the promises he made to them. Barchok was also accused of mismanaging county funds.

In a similar incident, Nandi residents invaded Governor Stephen Sang’s office while protesting over the delayed implementation of major projects.
