The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday summoned Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino to appear before it.
In a statement, the legislator was directed to avail himself at the DCI headquarters which is located along the Kiambu road in Nairobi on Wednesday, July 24 by 9 am.
According to the detectives, Babu Owino was summoned to provide information into allegations of an offence of police incitement and money laundering.
"I request you, Babu Owino, to report to me at the DCI headquarters, Nairobi County Police Station on July 24 at 09:00 hours, midday and furnish me with full information concerning the case," read part of the summon letter.
"I do believe you, Babu Owino, might have been involved or have information which can assist me in my investigations."
While commenting upon receiving the summon letter, the lawmaker expressed his displeasure at the move.
"I have been summoned by the DCI tomorrow to help them investigate myself, total madness," Babu Owino commented on his social media accounts.
The legislator was cautioned of potential prosecution if he failed to adhere to the directive and presented himself for probe. "Failure to comply with the above requirement renders you liable for prosecution," the letter read in part.
Babu Owino's summon by the DCI detectives comes amidst his strong stance against President William Ruto's administration.
On Monday, July 22, the lawmaker publicly hit out at the Head of State over what he termed as incompetency. While addressing residents of Homa Bay County, Owino expressed his support for the protesting youths.
"To the Gen Zs of this country, we are proud, we love what you are doing and we know the difference between President William Ruto and the Gen Zs," Babu Owino stated.
Owino accused the state of negligence following the deaths witnessed in the recent anti-government protests. "Tomorrow we have a date with destiny and for something good to happen, something must break," the vocal lawmaker remarked.
