Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei on Tuesday held a meeting with US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman that revolved around implementing commitments made following President William Ruto's visit to the White House earlier in the year.
Also present at the meeting was Marc Dillard, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi.
The meeting delved deep into assessing the progress both countries had made and putting in place strategies to fast-track the same.
Another topic of discussion was the state of the country in terms of the relationship between the Kenyan government and its citizens.
Seemingly, there have been concerns about the recent protests that have ravaged the country and the government's response to the same.
PS Sing’oei, in his post reiterated the government's commitment to protecting the country's civil space which he described as robust.
“Reaffirmed Kenya's commitment to protecting the country's robust civic space critical to democratic governance while upholding the rule of law by all”, he stated.
Additionally, the PS maintained that Kenya values US assistance to help the country achieve sustainable development.
This comes after President William Ruto in the last two weeks accused the Ford Foundation of sponsoring protests in Kenya.
In a letter directed to Darren Walker, President William Ruto's administration accused the New York-based NGO of funding about 16 organisations within the country to fuel anarchy in Kenya.
However, in its response, the Ford Foundation refuted the allegations, stating that it was only committed to contributing towards charitable causes in the country.
On Monday, the Ford Foundation's President Darren Walker announced that he is set to resign at the end of 2025.
