Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino on Tuesday revealed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had dropped a summon issued against him earlier in the day.
The legislator had been summoned to help with investigations that he was allegedly inciting Kenyans as well as engaging in money laundering activities.
Babu Owino was supposed to present himself to DCI headquarters on Wednesday at 09:00 am but the summon has since been rescinded.
“The DCI has unceremoniously withdrawn their summon,” Babu Owino stated while sharing an apparent confidential chat with a DCI detective.
According to the vocal legislator, the DCI were worried about the pandemonium he would have brought to the office.
He remarked that he had already organised troops who would have charged to the DCI headquarters demanding for his innocence. Ironically, this was to happen when he was being accused of incitement.
“I was to be accompanied by my advocates, MPs and the people of Kenya, but it appears news of our visit in our thousands prompted them to recall their invitation,” the MP stated.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) elected MP revealed that he would not be intimidated into silence.
According to the Embakasi East MP, it did not matter the price he was going to pay for his political expression freedom.
Earlier, Babu Owino had wondered why the DCI was summoning him to help the detectives investigate himself.
The MP has been vocal in supporting anti-government protests and he was among legislators who voted "NO" to the Finance Bill 2024.
He has also been vocal in rejecting any form of dialogue between the Kenya Kwanza administration and the opposition.
