A 100 per cent increment of entry fees for foreign tourists at the Maasai Mara Reserve in Narok County took effect this month.

Following the adjustments, foreign tourists above 18 years are paying Ksh26,500 (USD 200) to access the park.

This is a 100 per cent increment from the charges that were effected between January and June this year.

"Narok County Government has confirmed that the Masai Mara Park Fees for 2024 will be increased to USD 100 per non-resident adult per day from January 1, 2024, to June 30, 2024, and USD 200 per non-resident adult per day, from July 1 2024 onwards," read the statement by the tourist site in part.

Foreign children aged between nine and 17 years will be paying Ksh6,625 ( USD 50) for entry.

Those who are aged eight and below will be entering the park for free.

"A 12 (twelve) hour ticket validity has been effected. Some of the points to note are that guests staying outside the reserve will be required to pay a daily entry fee wherein the ticket will be valid from 6 am to 6 pm.

"Secondly, all guests departing from the Reserve by road should exit the reserve no later than 10 am. Exit beyond this time will attract an additional entry fee," read the directive on the website.

Meanwhile, Kenyan adults touring the area will continue paying the Ksh3,000 entry fee.

Children and students have the entry fee set at Ksh1,000.

Meanwhile, local residents (from Narok County) have their rates set at Ksh2,000 for adults and Ksh500 for children above 10 years

"Entry fees to Masai Mara were revised late last year in line with the Maasai Mara Management Plan, Greater Masai Mara Ecosystem Management Plan and the County Government of Narok Physical & Land Use Development Plan. Park entry fees are no longer based on the location of the Camp or Lodge at which one is staying in the Reserve," read the statement in part.
