Several flights on Thursday, July 24 scheduled to land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) were diverted.

According to a statement, this unexpected turn of events was due to adverse weather conditions as warned by the Kenya Meteorological Department.

This poor weather impaired the vision of the pilots who were advised by control tower operators to divert to Moi International Airport in Mombasa.

Other flights which were yet to cross the Kenyan airspace were diverted to the Kilimanjaro International Airport, in Tanzania.

Notably, passengers were warned of expected delays in departure and arrival in Nairobi.

"We understand that this may cause inconveniences but please be assured that we have taken all necessary safety measures and the well-being of our crew, and customers are our number one priority," read the statement.

All passengers were advised to be patient as airlines await the weather to be more favourable for flying to avoid any accidents.

Other airlines both local and international were yet to issue similar advisories to their passengers.

In the morning, several parts of Nairobi were covered in fog impairing vision on the roads. During these adverse weather conditions, drivers are advised to take caution while on the road.

This delay came a few days after the Kenya Met warned Kenyans of cold temperatures at night and increased rainfall in several parts of the country.

On Tuesday, the Kenya Met Department warned of night temperatures below 10 degrees and high day temperatures of up to 35 degrees in some parts of the country.

All Kenyans were advised to take necessary measures to adjust to these weather conditions.
