Speaker Moses Wetangula Unveils Team of MPs Who Will Vet New CSs

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has unveiled the Committee that will be mandated with vetting the newly nominated Cabinet Secretaries.

In a statement, he noted that he will be chairing the Committee and will be deputised by Uasin Gishu Women Rep Gladys Shollei.

Shollei will take up the position owing to her role as the National Assembly Deputy Speaker.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah will also be part of the vetting committee.

Others are; Anthony Kimani, Owen Baya Yaa, Robert Mbui, Rahab Mukami, Dido Ali Raso, Gitonga Murugara, David Gikaria, Ferdinand Wanyonyi, Mary Emaase, Rahim Dawood,  and Junet Mohammed.

Caleb Amisi, Stephen Mule, Nelson Koech, Abdi Shurie, Naisula Lesuuda, David Pkosing and Mishi Mboko will also be among the team to vet the 20 nominees.

Wetangula added that the Leader of Minority Opiyo Wandayi will not attend any vetting process as a committee member following his nomination to the energy docket.

"Notably, Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, who was previously a member of the Committee, will not participate in the vetting process but will instead appear before the Committee for his vetting," read the statement in part.

On the other hand, he assured Kenyans that the Committee would undertake a thorough vetting process to ensure that only qualified candidates get approved for the job.

"I have urged the Committee Members to prepare for extensive and meticulous scrutiny of the candidates, emphasizing strict adherence to legal frameworks, particularly Chapter 6 of the Constitution concerning leadership and integrity, to ensure the selection of the most qualified candidates for the positions," he added.

The vetting of the nominated CSs is set to commence on Thursday, August 1.

Interior CS nominee Kithure Kindiki and his Defence counterpart Roselinda Soipan Tuya will be among those who will be vetted on the first day.

The betting exercise will run until Sunday, August 4.

Meanwhile, Kenyans with reservations over the 20 Cabinet nominees have been advised to send a memorandum to the Clerk of the National Assembly.

"Now therefore, in compliance with Article 118(1)(b) of the Constitution and section 6(9) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act, 2011, the Clerk of the National Assembly hereby invites members of the public to submit any representations. They may have, by way of written statement on oath (affidavit) with supporting evidence contesting the suitability of any nominee proposed for appointment.

"The representations may be forwarded to the Clerk of the National Assembly, P.O. BOX 41842-00100, Nairobi: hand-delivered to the Office of the Clerk, Main Parliament Buildings, Nairobi, or emailed to cna@parliament.go.ke and appointments.nationalassembly@parliament.go.ke," read the notice in part.
