Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday expressed his satisfaction with President William Ruto’s decision to nominate new cabinet secretaries.
Speaking at a burial in Laikipia County, Gachagua advised Kenyans to stop criticism and embrace the new changes in government.
The second in command also hit out at a section of news outlets and political analysts whom he accused of making unwarranted sentiments against the recently nominated cabinet secretaries.
According to the Deputy President, the Head of State's decision to nominate new cabinet secretaries was for the benefit of all Kenyans.
“I have seen many people, all sorts of analysts, newspaper writers and commentators commenting about the gains and losses, which regions benefitted and which did not, who is strong and who is not,” Gachagua commented.
“I think the whole thing is a win for the people of Kenya and for us in the region are very happy about Mercy’s appointment,” he added.
Gachagua went ahead to dismiss the allegations of the dismissal of the secretary to the cabinet, Mercy Wanjau. According to Gachagua, Mercy's position was still intact.
The DP commended Mercy Wanjau for her role in cabinet meetings. He described her as an efficient and humble public officer.
"I have a testimony because Mercy Wanjau works with us, a very efficient public officer who runs the cabinet properly, we see signs of a good upbringing," stated Gachagua.
"It is good to clarify because when the cabinet was dissolved, Mercy's position remained in contact, so there was no need to re-appoint her."
Gachagua's sentiments come barely two days after President Ruto named the second batch of nominees to the cabinet secretary position.
During his address to the nation on Wednesday, the president included four senior opposition leaders in his new-look cabinet which he dubbed, broad-based.
