Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Saturday slammed President William Ruto accusing him of starting early campaigns for the 2027 elections, maintaining that he will face him in the next round of elections.

Kalonzo accused Ruto of using his newfound friendship with Raila Odinga to advance early campaigns in Nyanza in a scheme geared towards 2027.

The Wiper leader, while he was accompanied by a host of other leaders from ODM, Jubilee and DAPK, maintained that he will vie for the top seat using the Azimio coalition.

"They have said that the Wiper Democratic Movement leader will be the opposition flag bearer in 2027 within Azimio," he explained.

He also asked President Ruto to prepare for a bruising battle in the 2027 presidential election while slamming ODM, which he claimed moved to the government thereby abandoning their opposition duties after being compromised.

Kalonzo also assured Kenyans that he holds a grip of Azimio despite Raila Odinga's quest to clinch the African Union Commission Chairpersonship saying the move did not create a vacuum in opposition.

ODM Deputy Party Leader and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, however, maintained at the event that his party was not part of the government and is still strongly in Azimio.

"We are firmly in Azimio and our coalition remains strong and our moral obligation is not swayed," Nassir insisted.

Kalonzo also asked Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad to stay in Azimio and not act like his fellow leaders in ODM who bagged positions in the government.

The Wiper leader also asked opposition politicians to stand strong for the principles of the opposition politics and act as a watchdog to the Kenya Kwanza Government. He also maintained that he will not join the government even though he respects Raila's decision to work with Ruto.

"Our stand is that, with us, we will ensure that Ruto does not stay in the government come 2027," he added.

Kalonzo recently declared himself the official opposition leader in the country following the decision of ODM to work with Mr Ruto’s side resulting in the birth of the broad based government.
