Footage obtained by Kenyans.co.ke depicted a rescue team evacuating those trapped from the bus as first responders administered first aid on injured persons.

Police were yet to respond to the matter by the time of publishing this article.

Hardly an hour after the incident, police officers arrived at the scene of the tragedy before commencing a probe into the matter.

It is not the first time such an incident has occurred on the same stretch.

In an analogous situation in June last year, a group of Al-Shabaab militants attacked a bus along the Wajir-Madera highway.

The gang of about 15 shot in the air forcing the driver to stop and then ordered all the passengers to alight.

During the occurrence, 55 passengers escaped unharmed.

Survivors speaking to journalists afterwards revealed the attack was staged at the Bore area about six kilometres from the Tarbaj Trading Centre in Wajir County.
