A former Harambee Stars player was on Tuesday, September 3, arraigned in court over the murder of a three-year-old girl.

The player was arraigned alongside his accomplice over the murder that is alleged to have taken place in Lucky Summer Estate, Ruaraka in Nairobi.

The duo appeared before Justice Alexander Muteti at the Milimani Law Courts but did not take a plea.

The prosecution team confirmed that the two suspects had undergone medical assignment. Justice Muteti directed mental assessment reports to be filed in court before they plead to charges on September 11, 2024.

“The suspect with the help of his co-accused are alleged to have broken into the deceased's parents' rental house in Lucky Summer in the absence of her parents and committed the heinous act. Her lifeless body was later discovered dumped in a nearby residence,” stated the prosecution team.

The investigating officer who appeared in court following summons, refuted claims that he had declined to release a mobile phone and money belonging to the Stars’ player.

The officer informed the court that during the arrest, he recovered a mobile phone and a wallet that had two identification cards and an NHIF card. All the documents were recorded in an inventory signed by the suspect.

The court directed the investigating officer to release the phone to the suspect. It further directed him to make a formal compliance with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

The suspect, a renowned ex-Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars midfielder, and his co-accused are alleged to have murdered the minor in April 2024.

The suspect has been in police custody as detectives conclude investigations into the murder case.

The suspect has been held at Industrial Area Remand Prison since July 23, while his co-accused is held at Lang'ata Women's Prison.

They will respond to the charges on September 11 as directed by the court after the investigating officer concludes investigations.

The suspect has featured in several Kenyan Premier League clubs as a midfielder.
