Isiolo High Court Judge Thripsisa Wanjiku Wamae was on Monday, September 9, involved in a road accident while travelling in the company of her bodyguard and driver.
The three were traveling along the Eldama Ravine-Nakuru Highway when their vehicle veered off the highway and rolled into a ditch.
The vehicle, a Ford model, was heavily damaged on the front, including the windshield- an indication of the impact of the crash.
Mogotio OCPD Felician Nafula confirmed the incident noting that the judge, alongside two other occupants of the car, sustained injuries. Later, reports indicated that the judge was airlifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment while the other two were taken to Valley Hospital Nakuru.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC), in a statement, confirmed that the judge was in a stable condition after receiving treatment.
"Hon Lady Justice Thripsisa Wanjiku Wamae, a Judge of the High Court and Presiding Judge, Isiolo High Court, has regrettably been involved in a Road Traffic Accident along the Eldama Ravine – Nakuru road. She is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition. We wish the Hon Judge quick recovery," the statement read.
First responders and a traffic police officer were the first to the scene and attempted to provide assistance to the judge. Luckily, no fatalities were reported.
This was the latest incident in a worrying trend of road accidents across the country in recent weeks.
As recently as Friday, September 6, three people lost their lives after a horrific accident along the Londiani – Muhoroni Highway involving a lorry and Nissan double cabin at Fort Ternan.
Days earlier, nine people lost their lives after an accident on the Muhoroni-Kipsitet road near the Kisumu-Kericho border.
Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority reveal at least 3056 people have passed away on Kenyan roads as of August 27, 2024, compared to 2,910 deaths which were recorded in the same period in 2023.
In addition, 7,114 people have been involved in road accidents this year, which is 703 more than last year.
