Love can be found anywhere, anytime and in any situation. When it comes, everything just falls into place. That is exactly what happened to Tony Sherman and Kendi Gloria who first laid their eyes on each other during the first protest of the infamous Finance Bill 2024 on June 18.
Along Tom Mboya Street in the tumultuous protest, their eyes locked. Something shifted in their souls, as if fate sealed their divine meeting. The two quickly got into a conversation that birthed only people in love know about.
However, after tying the knot on August 25 in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), their marriage is being tested. The two are said to be facing immense pressure from concerned family members pushing for an official wedding.
According to the couple who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke, the in-laws claimed they did not get the opportunity to attend their wedding because it was done in Nairobi’s CBD. The family has, therefore, been pestering the couple to redo their wedding ceremony again formally in church, something that threatens their relationship with in-laws.
“Some in-laws are demanding we officiate our union in a formal manner and invite them. We were not ready for this because we were already wedded,” Sherman stated.
The couple who are happy with their union, however, began bowing to the pressure barely a month after tying knots.
To them, the budget of mounting a mega wedding is something out of their reach as they had no such plans. Tony Sherman, who is a professional chef and also doubles as an artist, observed that he does not have a job making it hard for him to finance another wedding.
Additionally, Sherman had already spent over Ksh50,000 to organise the wedding that was consummated in the CBD.
“I do not have the resources to do a big wedding that some family members are asking for,” the groom explained.
Sherman noted that they decided to have a simple wedding in the CBD so that they could invite fellow protesters and enjoy the camaraderie.
“We wanted to invite all those we were with at the protest so that they can be part of the wedding,” Tony Sherman explained.
The couple has no problem doing the desired wedding by family members as long as they can chip in and bear the burden. “We have no problem with doing an official wedding,” they noted.
