Florence Migunde was appointed the Acting Managing Director (MD) of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) on Monday.
The appointment came after the Board of Directors at the broadcasting company led by its chairperson Tom Mshindi on Monday converged and tapped her for the post.
Migunde takes over the position from her predecessor Paul Macharia whose tenure came to an end on Thursday, September 19, 2024.
"To ensure that KBC's activities continue well, the Board of Directors, after deliberation, has appointed Florence Migunde to be Acting Director from Monday, September 23, 2024, until the Director General is appointed," stated the chairperson in a statement.
The Board appealed to employees and stakeholders in the organisation to support the new acting MD during this transition as they wait for the position to be filled.
"All employees should fully support and cooperate with the Acting Director General to ensure the best delivery of services."
Prior to the appointment Florence Migunde served as KBC's Marketing Manager overseeing the marketing department of the national broadcaster.
Earlier in May this year, Agnes Kalekye was appointed as the Director General of KBC but a court order barred her from assuming the office.
The High Court stopped the appointment of Kalekye and three other individuals who were appointed to serve in various organizations in the government.
It was after Magare Gikenyi moved to court objecting the appointment claiming it was done in consultation with the Head of Public Service instead of being a presidential appointment.
Agnes Kalekye Nguna was appointed on May 17 as the new KBC’s MD by former ICT and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo which attracted a case filed objecting to the appointment.
The law spells out clearly that the appointment of the MD of the national broadcaster should be done by the President.
The decision of the case is still pending in court awaiting a conclusion. Florence Migunde will serve in an acting capacity as the case before the court is determined.
