Activist Morara Kebaso was on Tuesday arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi a day after being arrested by detectives at his office in Kahawa Sukari.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution preferred several charges against the activist including cyber harassment contrary to Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act.
According to the charge sheet shared by Morara Kebaso's lawyer, Morara Kebaso was arrested for allegedly posting false information about David Langat.
“David Morara Kebaso alias Morara Kebaso Snr on the 28th day of September 2024 at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before the court, while using the X Corp Account dubbed; @MoraraKebasoSnr, knowingly without lawful excuse, posted false information to wit…” the charge sheet read in part.
In the controversial post, Morara allegedly accused President William Ruto of reportedly tricking Langat into lending him a huge amount of money with a promise to refund.
Morara claimed that Langat took huge loans in order to lend the president the amount of money he had requested. Morara then claimed that Lang'at was hit by a wave of auctions that saw him reportedly lose property worth millions to the government.
"William Ruto approached DL Langat and told him he desperately needed more money for the campaign. DL Langat used his properties as security and took big loans to help his friend...," Kebaso alleged in the controversial post shared on X.
"Right now DL Langat is being auctioned by banks and the person who is buying the properties is William Ruto," the controversial post read further.
Meanwhile, the activist who is currently at Milimani Law Courts was arraigned on the same day that former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu also appeared in court.
The charges against Kebaso come hardly a day after he was arrested by people believed to be detectives. The activist was reportedly ambushed at his offices located at Kahawa Sukari in Nairobi.
During the arrest, the activist's lawyer trailed the police car to Nairobi Regional Headquarters in Nairobi. The attorney would further reveal that Morara's legal team had been blocked from accessing the facility.
"They have restricted access and have strict instructions from the top not to allow any person to access Morara including lawyers, media personnel, and any other persons," the lawyer told journalists.
‘’The question is what type of police do we have here? They have no respect for the constitution, they have no respect for the rule of the law. The head is rotten from the Minister of Interior including all the officers that we have here holding Morara and we should condemn it in the strongest way possible."
