The family of a missing Kenyatta University student is in fear and suspense after their 19-year-old son, Jonathan Nabwera, went missing 2 weeks ago. The family has been searching for their kin in vain since.
It is now pleading with the government to assist in locating their son who went missing on the night of September 28, in the Utawala Area on the outskirts of Nairobi.
The two mobile phones that Jonathan had in his possession were last active in the Ruai Area along Eastern Bypass on the same night of his disappearance before they were later switched off.
“On September 26, my son called the father and told him he needed Ksh15,000 to buy a laptop from a boy who wanted to sell it which the father sent on the same day on Thursday, on Saturday the boy went missing,” Anne Namsonge, Jonathan’s mother, explained.
Right after receiving the cash, Jonathan attended a graduation party in the neighbourhood invited by a friend identified as Joash.
“I called him and told him that my friend was graduating if he could come and he said he would come. That day, he came with a friend and they did not stay long telling me that his cousin had called him so he wants to leave,” Valary Ochieng, a friend of Joash, narrated.
After the party, they called the cousin who was at a nearby entertainment joint along Eastern Bypass but did not reach him.
After friends tried to reach Jonathan on the phone, they found the two phones he owns switched off, which was when they suspected something was amiss.
When outside, Calvin Wachana who left with Joash at the party, asked him where his cousin was but was not given an answer.
Instead, Jonathan inquired of his friend where he could help himself. “The last thing Jonathan asked me was where the washrooms are.” Wachana testified.
The friend left leaving Jonathan headed for the washrooms. After calling moments after leaving him, the call was not being answered.
That was the last time he was seen before his phones were switched off and his whereabouts have remained unknown since.
The friends who were with him took the initiative and reported the matter to Mihang’o Police Station and recorded a statement.
“We are all in tears. We are praying that God will give back our son. We pray he comes home safe and sound,” Jonathan’s mother hoped tears welling in her eyes.
