The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday arrested a police officer from Kahawa West Police Station.
EACC revealed that the police officer was arrested after it was established that she demanded a Ksh50,000 bribe to facilitate the withdrawal of the complainant’s criminal case from court.
"The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a Police officer from Kahawa West Police Station who demanded to be gifted Ksh 50,000," EACC stated
The EACC revealed that the suspect was detained at the Kilimani Police Station on Monday and then transferred back to the EACC Integrity Centre Police Station to record a statement.
This arrest came at a time when the EACC has focused on tightening the loopholes in corruption cases in the country. In August the Commission arrested four police officers attached to the National Police Service.
The officers were apprehended after they were lured into a trap while actively collecting bribes from motorists.
The officers were arrested at a notorious spot in Litein town where the officers used to target motorists to obtain bribes.
In the same breath, EACC also arrested two officers of the Nairobi City County in April.
The officers a Compliance and Enforcement Officer were nabbed in varied locations in the City and taken to the Commission’s Police Station at Integrity Centre for processing and arraignment.
In a bid to tighten the corruption loopholes, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission launched an examination of the systems, policies, procedures and practices of the State Departments.
The review is aimed at identifying any weaknesses, loopholes, avenues and opportunities for corruption.
It is also aimed at recommending actions to streamline the systems and seal the identified loopholes in order to prevent corruption and enhance the department’s service delivery.
