Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa on Friday night questioned the hurried process to nominate Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure as the country's next Deputy President following the ouster of Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Wamalwa questioned the rush, yet the constitution allows a period of 14 days to install another second in command in case a vacancy occurs in the second highest office in the land.

"There is more than meets the eye here, the president has fourteen days, but it took hours, what should have taken 60 days, for parliament to approve is taking hours".

Wamalwa went on to question how Kindiki was nominated yet the Independent and Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was not properly constituted. The former CS, said the entire process is a legal minefield, since in his view, the law was not followed to the letter.

"The DP nominated by the President must be verified by IEBC and other institutions because he must have the qualifications of a President. How did he get clearance between midnight and this morning? We do not even have an IEBC", Wamalwa continued.

During the interview, Wamalwa said he did not have a problem with Kindiki as a person and instead communicated that he harbored serious reservations about the country sliding to the precipice.

Wamalwa's sentiments come hours after the National Assembly approved Kindiki's nomination as Kenya's third Deputy President under the 2010 Constitution following Rigathi Gachagua's impeachment.

Speaker Moses Wetangula announced the results, declaring, “The nomination is hereby declared passed by the House,” setting the stage for Kindiki to replace the ousted Gachagua.

The Deputy President set fell vacant after the Senate upheld the National Assembly's resolution to kick out Gachagua.

The National Assembly initiated the impeachment process after Kibwezi East Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse tabled an impeachment motion to remove Rigathi Gachagua levelling 11 charges against him.

Having served as the Interior Cabinet Secretary in the Kenya Kwanza Government, Kindiki is just a step away from being Kenya's second in command.

Meanwhile, all eyes are on the Court of Appeal after two High Courts issued different orders stopping Kindiki from replacing Gachagua.
