The saga surrounding the recent impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua continues to take twists with the latest being an order directing 108 staffers in his office to proceed on compulsory leave.
A notice seen by Kenyans.co.ke issued by Principal Administrative Secretary Patrick Mwangi and copied to Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service Felix Koskei, was far-reaching with employees in various job groups being directed to take compulsory leave immediately from Saturday 19 October following the impeachment of their boss.
"Following the ongoing constitutional process affecting his excellency the Deputy President it has been decided as follows: all officers in job groups T and U are hereby and instructed to proceed on compulsory leave with immediate effect," reads part of the notice.
Among the employees sent on leave are: Wanjiku Wakogi, (Chief of Staff), Ibrahim Rashid Ahmed (Advisor), Jane Wangui Kiringai (Advisor) , Paul Tirimba Machogu (Advisor), Murimi Murimo Mirage (Advisor), Catherine Njeri Rugene (Advisor), Nancy Wambui Kangethe (Chief of Staff OSDP) and George Theuri (Advisor).
Others include: Munene Gathodu (Private Secretary), Eric Gichuhi Wachira (Deputy Chief of Staff), Margaret Winnie Muthoni Namusonge (Advisor), Martin Deric Ngujiri Wambugu (Advisor), Richard Nzioka Muteti (Advisor) and Allan Waweru Mburu (Advisor).
Leonard Saningo Ngaluma (Secretary Administration), Jefwa Arnold Mkare (Secretary Administration), Rose Wangari Gakuo (Secretary, State Functions) and Mwongela Francis Mikwa (Secretary Press services) were also directed to proceed on leave.
Before going on leave, the officers have been directed to ensure they designate in writing a responsible officer to be in charge of their respective departments which should be copied to the Chief of Staff and the Principal Administrative Secretary.
Serving officers in supernumerary contacts were also directed to proceed on compulsory leave with immediate effect.
All Heads of departments were also directed to ensure adherence with the directives by mid-day on Saturday 19 October.
The move follows the changes that are happening in the Office of the Deputy President following Gachagua's impeachment.
Gachagua was impeached after Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse moved a motion to remove him from office on 11 grounds.
Meanwhile, the Deputy President's position is bracing itself for a new occupant after President William Ruto picked Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to be the next second in command.
