Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga on Saturday graduated with a Doctorate Degree in Leadership and Education Management from the Kenya Methodist University (KeMU).
Taking to his official X account on Saturday, October 19, Mutahi expressed his elation at achieving this academic feat which he revealed was a testament to the hard work he has put in over the years.
"To God be the glory! Graduated today with my Doctorate degree in Leadership and Education Management at Kenya Methodist University," Kahiga tweeted.
Recounting his education journey, the Governor revealed that it has been a tough four years for his academic journey especially because of the 2022 general elections in which he was seeking to be elected.
"It has been a tough four years, full of challenges, an election in 2022, and all the hassles of life, but I thank God Almighty for this far," recounted Kahiga.
Messages of congratulations flooded his comment section with Kenyans celebrating the Governor's latest milestone. The governor is an alumnus of Kiganjo Primary School and St. Mary's Boys High School; both in Nyeri County.
Mutahi holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nairobi and a Master’s Degree in Education Leadership & Management from the Kenya Methodist University. He is popularly known as Mwalimu since he first built a name for himself in the education sector, boasting of a teaching career spanning 32 years.
If he did not join politics, Mutahi would most probably be still in the education sector having taught in public schools for an aggregate period of 32 years; 18 years of which, he served as a headmaster.
“I graduated in 1980 and was posted to Baringo Central where I taught before coming back to Nyeri,” the Governor revealed in an interview with journalists in 2021 during the campaign period.
The Governor is an academic who additionally holds a Pl Certificate from Kisii Teachers Training College and a Diploma in Cooperative studies from Negiv Institute & University, Beershiva in Israel.
The governor's career took a turn when he joined politics. In 2017, he was elected as the Deputy Governor of Nyeri on a joint ticket with the late Dr. Wahome Gakuru. When the late county chief passed away, Mutahi Kahiga took over on November 19, 2017.
Under his leadership, the people of Nyeri have lauded his efforts, saying they have experienced exponential growth in all sectors.
