Eight government officials attached to the Samburu County Assembly were on Monday involved in a road accident near Sukta, Marmar in Samburu County.

According to reports, two of the injured county officials were Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) of Samburu who were travelling to Bungoma County for games.

The accident is said to have been caused by mechanical issues that eventually led a county vehicle to crash resulting in the injuries.

Following the accident, the injured were rushed to the Samburu County Referral Hospital to receive treatment for their injuries varying from minor to major.

Lati Lelelit, the Samburu County Governor, confirmed the incident noting that four of the injured had already been discharged from the hospital after treatment for minor injuries.

The other four are still receiving treatment at the hospital but are expected to pull through and be discharged soon as well.

This accident comes just a few hours after reports of another non-fatal accident involving a Tahmeed Bus in the Nairobi GPO area.

After reports started spreading online that two people had succumbed in the accident, Tahmeed Bus Company published a press release denying the allegations early this morning.

“All of the passengers and crew escaped with just minor injuries, and after being treated at Kenyatta Hospital, a rescue bus was dispatched to pick them up at 7 a.m. today (Monday),” Tahmeed stated.

However, this is not the first time this year that county officials have been involved in an accident. The accident comes almost a month to the day after a Kiambu County nominated MCA died in a road accident along Thika road on September 22.

Ezra Kabugi Kihara, the Kiambu MCA passed on when his car, a Subaru Forester caught on fire after crashing with a lorry from behind.

"On reaching the location of the accident, the driver of the Forester rammed the rear of an Isuzu FRR lorry. The driver died on the spot," a police report stated.
