A sombre mood has engulfed Chebukaka Village in Kabuchai, Bungoma County after a woman was stabbed to death by her husband.
The victim is said to have been killed by her husband in her house during the morning hours.
According to reports, the suspect is alleged to have hunted for the wife overnight without success before ambushing the victim the next morning.
“It seems like the suspect was planning to ambush her during the wee hours of the night but was unable to because the door to the house was locked. He resorted to waiting till the next morning where he could get to her after the children had gone to school.” a villager said.
The suspect alleged that his wife sold his motorcycle and used all the money leading to a row between the two.
In an unfortunate turn of events, the suspect also stabbed one of the victim’s five children, a girl, who was trying to rescue their mother.
According to the girl, the suspect had hidden in a banana plantation nearby and pounced on the victim when she was brushing her teeth.
After committing the heinous crime, the suspect attempted to take his own life but did not go through with it. He is now receiving treatment at the Bungoma Referral Hospital after which he is likely to be charged for the crime.
The stabbed girl has been discharged from hospital and is currently recuperating at home.
First responders to the scene said they found the victim as she was breathing her last and proceeded to call the area assistant chief upon her demise.
Confirming the incident, Japhret Watima a witness and a resident from the region urged his constituents to remain calm as investigations into the matter continue.
Currently, the victim’s body is lying in the Bungoma Referral Hospital morgue as villagers come to terms with the unfortunate tragedy. Burial preparations are already underway.
