Azimio coalition principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa on Thursday dismissed allegations of receiving millions from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to save him from impeachment.

While clarifying the allegations, Wamalwa flagged a post that purported how he and Kalonzo allegedly received Ksh50 million and Ksh100 million respectively to oppose Gachagua’s ouster.

According to the former Defence Cabinet Secretary, the bribery allegations suggested by the online post were fake and no money was channelled to their accounts regarding the same.

Wamalwa was forced to clarify the matter after Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale shared a post purporting how the two Azimio leaders minted millions from Gachagua’s impeachment process.

The flagged post further claimed that both Kalonzo and Wamalwa received cash deposits of Ksh50 million and Ksh30 million each respectively as a down payment for them to marshall the required support against the impeachment.

While sharing the flagged post, Khalwale sought clarity from Eugene Wamalwa on whether the allegations were true or false. “That is fake news, I hope you have been able to separate fact from fiction my brother Boni Khalwale,” Wamalwa responded.

The allegations come against the backdrop of Kalonzo's strong opposition to Rigathi Gachagua's impeachment. The Wiper Party leader recently accused President William Ruto of orchestrating the former deputy president's impeachment.

Speaking on Citizen TV on October 16, Kalonzo alleged that Gachagua's impeachment was a pre-determined scheme with heavy political backing.

"The impeachment process is pre-determined, the National Assembly will have a sitting on Friday which means they have already pre-judged what the Senators will decide," Kalonzo stated.

"This is a country that has now been bedevilled by corruption of all kinds. Unless the courts come and stop the whole process, Gachagua's goose is cooked because President Ruto will on Friday bring his nominee to the National Assembly," the Wiper Party leader added.

During the interview, Kalonzo went ahead to dismiss allegations of being approached by the Head of State to take up the role of the deputy president after Gachagua's impeachment. Kalonzo noted that Ruto had yet to approach him for the government position but maintained that he would not pick it even if granted the opportunity.

"First of all, the opportunity has not been offered to me. He has not approached me because he knows I will not accept the offer," the Wiper Party leader clarified.
