Activist Boniface Mwangi has reportedly been abducted by unknown people, his partner Njeri Mwangi has revealed.
According to Njeri, the outspoken activist was picked up by unknown people on Sunday morning in Ukambani at around 7: 15 am.
"This morning at around 7.15, six uninformed people went to courage base and forcefully took my husband from the house. I have no idea who, why or where they have taken him," Boniface Mwangi's wife shared on social media.
The latest development came barely 24 hours after Mwangi revealed plans to infiltrate the Standard Chartered marathon, set to take place on Sunday.
In his post on Saturday, evening, the activist urged his followers to show up for the marathon with attire opposing the Kenya Kwanza regime.
Among other instructions, the activist urged his followers to adorn the national flag as part of their sports gear, wear hats with the national colours, record protest chants and share them online and bring placards with messages to President William Ruto.
Protesters were then supposed to converge at Uhuru Gardens, where the award ceremony for the marathon is set to take place.
Hours before his alleged abduction, the activist was at a club where he met some of his staunch supporters who led anti-government chants at the entertainment joint on his behalf.
Mwangi's whereabouts are currently unknown, although news of his abduction has taken social media by storm, with the trend #FreeBonicaceMwangi taking centre stage on X, formerly Twitter.
The self-styled 'People's Watchman' is one of the fiercest critics of the government, with some of his public sentiments landing him in legal trouble in recent times.
In July, at the height of the anti-Finance Bill protests, Mwangi was arrested alongside four others on accusation of incitement to violence. Authorities sought to detain them for 21 days, but they were eventually freed on Ksh20,000 cash bail each.
