National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah on Saturday weighed in on the Deputy President situation in Kenya, referring to Kithure Kindiki as the new second-in-command.

While addressing mourners at the funeral of Tharaka MP Gitonga Murugara’s mother, Ichung'wah told Tharaka Nithi residents that he is confident their former senator will be sworn in soon.

“I am confident that even those who serve us in the country within the Judiciary will do what is right for Kenya. I am confident in due course we shall be swearing in our Deputy president, the desire of the people of Kenya to be able to move on together as one united country. A deputy president who will serve all the people of Kenya not just the people of Tharaka Nithi or the mountain region.”

“Your former senator who has been our Interior Cabinet Secretary and is now our Deputy President of Kenya, Professor Kithure Kindiki is not just a friend, he is my brother,” Ichung’wah said.

He went further to state that he had spent the night at Kindiki’s home just two Sundays before where they had had discussions and prayed heavily for Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, who was the motion-mover in the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.

“And because we are children of God, when we prayed God heard us. I want to assure you, people of Tharaka Nithi, we are in a good place because those of us who voted in Parliament, I want to tell you soon enough, time will vindicate us, that we did what we had to do for our love for a united nation,” Ichung’wah told the congregation.

He went on to slight Rigathi Gachagua over his utterances perceived to be too pro-Mt Kenya and assured Kenyans that the region was intact and Kenya was ready to move on once Kindiki is sworn in.

The highly politicised funeral was attended by several MPs, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse who also had a lot to say on the matter.

“Even strength must give way to wisdom. So if you see that man, let him know that no matter how tough he feels, he must give way to wisdom because Kenya is a democracy founded on a constitutional order that we bestowed on ourselves in 2010, and in our democracy numbers matter,” Mutuse said.

Elsewhere in Isiolo, Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale joined in the chorus of campaigning against the tribal politics Gachagua was accused of that led to his eventual impeachment.

“When the President and the Deputy President including me, your son, took the oath of office, I am not a minister for Northern Kenya. I am a Minister of the Republic of Kenya,” Duale said.

“And whoever is working in Ruto’s government and has a tribalism agenda, I want to tell you for free because I have worked with that man for 20 years, it is impossible,” he continued adding the Kenya Kwanza administration will serve all Kenyans equally.
