County Assembly Forum on Thursday threatened to shut down all the operations of 47 county assemblies in the next 14 days should the government fail to produce the missing Wajir member of the county assembly (MCA) Yusuf Hussein Ahmed.

In a joint statement to the press, the County Assemblies Forum sent a warning to the government and related agencies to produce the Wajir MCA.

The Speaker of Elgeyo Marakwet County Kiplagat Sabulei who is also the chair of the County Assemblies Forum expressed solidarity with the family of the missing MCA and asked the government to produce their colleague.

“We continue to pray for Yussuf and his family during this difficult moment. We urge the government to give this matter the seriousness and urgency it deserves,” the chair stated.

On his part, Wajir County Assembly Speaker Abdille Yussuf speaking at the presser stated the MCAs are suspecting their colleague is being held by the government.

“As an assembly, we are convinced and confident that Yussuf is being held by the government,” he affirmed.

Pressure has been building up from various quotas including human rights groups and the family of the MCA to have Yusuf produced.

It comes barely a week after the Nairobi High Court issued orders for the Wajir MCA Yussuf Ahmed who went missing be produced dead or alive.

Before the High Court Judge Alexander Muteti, the family argued that the government may have deposited the wrong body in Lake Yahud to mislead the family of the missing MCA.

This is after examinations of the DNA results showed that a body supposedly to be of the MCA retrieved on October 20 from Lake Yahud in Wajir did not match that of the Yussuf.

The legal team representing the family told the court that the government chief pathologist Johansen Oduor had confirmed the DNA sample of the body did not match with that of Wajir MCA Yusuf.

Yusuf went missing on October 13, after an alleged abduction in Nairobi by unknown individuals believed to be police officers.

The MCA was reportedly abducted on Enterprise Road in Makadara Constituency, at 9 pm using a Landcruiser Prado and since then his whereabouts has not been established.
