The Kenya Union of Post Primary Primary Education (KUPPET) Nairobi branch officials have called out the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for not remitting Union dues for the last three months since August.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, November 2, at a workshop in Nairobi, Nairobi Branch Executive Secretary Moses Mbora decried the financial victimization, revealing that the move by TSC would jeopardize the deal reached to end the recent nationwide strike.

Mbora joined Kuppet Kisumu branch executive secretary Zablon Awange, who had cited the same frustrations on Friday. KUPPET also claims the delay to remit the cash amounts to the adversity of its members, subjecting them to financial struggles.

"We have suffered enough, our properties are being repossessed, by banks from which we took loans, and we are incapable of paying the staff, the Executive secretary, and the administration."

"We are not capable of paying rent, we are not capable of servicing our loans. To the TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, that which is happening now is a disservice and is illegal," Moses Mbora decried.

The KUPPET teachers have been decrying frustration by TSC, alleging that it is a plot by TSC to kill the union. KUPPET leaders across the country have continued to decry an attempt to cripple them.

"KUPPET branches nationwide are facing pecuniary embarrassment in meeting their operations costs," Awange of the Kisumu branch revealed.

According to the KUPPET teachers they have not received the funds that they were promised during the signing of the return-to-work formula in August and September 2024 which culminated in them halting the strike they held for over a week.

The revelation by the KUPPET regional leaders comes at a time when President William Ruto met with the KUPPET leadership. Ruto met the leaders led by its National Chairman Omboko Milemba at the State House in Nairobi on Saturday.

During the meeting, President Ruto reassured the teachers that he would continue to look into their welfare and ensure they provide quality education to students.

"Our routine dialogue and exchange of views with education stakeholders is aimed at improving the welfare of teachers and quality of learning for our children," Ruto reassured the teachers.
