Police have launched a manhunt for the prime suspect behind the murder of Kirinyaga MCA's daughter, Seth Nyakio Njeri, and are now asking the public to aid in the search for the alleged suspect.
In what seems to be a major breakthrough in the investigations behind Njeri’s death, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on November 14, revealed the identity of who they claim is the prime suspect.
In a post, DCI confirmed that investigations have revealed the prime suspect in the murder that took place nearly a month ago. Seth Njeri was found at her friend’s house at Biafra Estate within Thika township on October 10, 2024.
The DCI revealed that the suspect had gone into hiding after committing the murder announcing that they were on the hunt for the suspect.
“After the heinous murder, the suspect went into hiding, and homicide detectives are hunting him down,” the police stated.
Police disclosed that the suspect had a criminal record as seen in a September court case; noting that the suspect should be considered dangerous.
“Notably, the suspect has a criminal record of threatening to kill as evidenced in a September 25, 2024 court case, and detectives are considering him dangerous to anyone who might be exposed to him,” they claimed. The police urged members of the public who might have information about the whereabouts of the prime suspect to report to their nearest police station or anonymously through their toll-free hotline- 0800722203.
Njeri’s body, which was discovered two days after she left her home, had visible marks around her neck, suggesting she could have died from strangulation. The deceased was the daughter of nominated MCA Lucy Njeri Mwaniki.
Speaking on learning about the death of her daughter, Lucy Njeri admitted it was difficult to accept she was gone, saying she could still feel the bond when looking at the deceased's lifeless body.
"I found my daughter lying peacefully," she said. "A good soul. You could think we were talking to each other because the bond did not leave me."
The new development in the investigations into Njeri’s homicide has come at a time when Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja recently came out to assure Kenyans that the police have heightened security in all parts of the country following a surge in cases of femicide, abductions, and extrajudicial killings.
“Gender Desks at police stations nationwide are on high alert to deal swiftly with any cases of gender-based violence,” the police boss stated.
