A family in Kiambu is in distress following the mysterious death of a 23-year-old University student.
The body of Seth Nyakio Njeri was discovered in a rental apartment in the Biafra area, Thika County, on Sunday, October 20, in what appeared to be a homicide.
Her body, which was discovered two days after she left her home, had visible marks around her neck, suggesting she could have died from strangulation.
The deceased was the daughter of nominated MCA Lucy Njeri Mwaniki, who divulged that her daughter was in high spirits when she left her parent's house on Saturday, October 19.
Despite initially being in contact with her daughter, Lucy Njeri became worried when calls and text messages suddenly went unanswered. She instantly knew something had gone wrong since her daughter rarely went for hours without communicating.
After hours of uncertainty, Lucy's worst fears were confirmed after receiving a strange phone call from a friend, who confirmed that the Zetech University graduate had passed away.
Speaking on learning about the death of her daughter, Lucy Njeri admitted it was difficult to accept she was gone, saying she could still feel the bond when looking at the deceased's lifeless body.
"I found my daughter lying peacefully," she said. "A good soul. You could think we were talking to each other because the bond did not leave me."
The nominated MCA further narrated her emotional plight, as she just lost her only child. Kenyans.co.ke has since obtained several past videos of the mother and daughter showing their enviable bond.
“It was murder and so many other shocking things that no parent or everybody else would have liked to go through. I have been left with the trauma, the pain, and shock."
Preliminary investigations revealed the girl was sexually assaulted before the assailant ended her life.
Meanwhile, detectives have zeroed in on a male suspect - the deceased's alleged boyfriend - who they believed could have committed the heinous act in a case of love gone sour. The late Nyakio's family, however, refuted that theory.
Nyakio's female friend has also been questioned by police as they continue probing into the murder.
This latest incident highlighted the worrying trend of young girls losing their lives at the hands of assailants, some of whom are yet to be brought to justice.
A week earlier, on October 14, a body belonging to a student of the Mount Kenya University was discovered in a maize plantation in the Kiamunyi area of Rongai Constituency in Nakuru County.
