The Senate on Tuesday, November 19, voted to approve the appointment of Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga to the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) following the resignation of his Laikipia counterpart John Kinyua.

The vote came after Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruyiot rose to the floor to move a motion for approval.

''The Senators have unanimously by applause approved the appointment of Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga as Parliamentary Service Commissioner to replace Laikipia Senator John Kinyua who resigned from that office,'' read a statement from the Senate.

The motion came following the resignation of Kinyua, a key ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, on Tuesday, November 19.

Kinyua’s resignation comes just a week after he publicly apologized to President William Ruto during his visit to Laikipia for voting against all the impeachment charges against Gachagua.

''Your Excellency, people sometimes create a lot of issues and at times you may slip, but slipping isn’t falling. People slip and sometimes make mistakes along the way,” Kinyua told the President.

Key parliamentary reshuffles seem to be in the pipeline following the composition of the broad-based and the expulsion of Gachagua from the position of Deputy party leader of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Gachagua was officially removed as the Deputy party leader on November 11, in a statement announced by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar.

''By virtue of the resolution of the National Assembly and the vote of the Senate and by operations of articles 75 (3) and 45(7) of the constitution, Rigathi Gachagua is unable to perform the duties of the deputy party leader and thus ceases to hold the office of the Deputy Party Leader," the statement read.

“The National Executive Committee has resolved to designate Prof. Kithure Kindiki as the Deputy Party Leader of the United Democratic Alliance Party, effective immediately."

Key parliamentary reshuffles might be looming with changes expected on house leadership committees.

The changes are likely to affect Gachagua allies who have in the past indicated to be against the UDA party stand regarding some issues.
