Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu on Sunday revealed plans by the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to send home committee leaders in the Senate that did not support the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking at a Church Service at African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) Kangari in Murang'a County where Gachagua was the guest of honour, Nyutu who is the chairman of the education committee in Senate revealed plans by UDA to replace all leaders in the Senate committee who are allied to Gachagua.

He said that President William Ruto is planning to remove him alongside three other senators who are chairpersons in various committees in the Senate.

The others are Kiambu Senator and chairman of the Roads Committee Karungo wa Thang’wa, Nyandarua Senator and chair of lands John Methu, and Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango, chair of agriculture committee.

“They want to oust us all who are supporting Gachagua. They want to remove us because we refused to support the impeachment of Gachagua,” Nyutu stated.

The Senator noted that they would not follow the party stance when it was outrightly engaged in mob justice of Gachagua who he maintained was innocent.

“I, with the other three senators, have refused to follow punitive party directions. We have brains to think for ourselves,” he added.

Nyutu added that they would not be cowed nor intimidated to stop supporting Gachagua even after he was ousted vowing to drum up support for him.

“If they want to take those seats, let them take them. We were elected by the people who we will continue to serve,” he stated stressing that they will not be sold to fear and intimidation.

Gachagua, while speaking in the same church service, told the four senators who had accompanied him not to be bothered by the seats. "The position of chair of the committees is a small thing, don't worry," Gachagua addressed the congregation.

There has been a purge in the Parliament and executive by the ruling party to rid people who are supporters of Gachagua, especially those who did not support Gachagua's impeachment.

The Senate on Tuesday, November 19, approved the appointment of Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga to the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) following the resignation of his Laikipia counterpart John Kinyua, who is an ally of Gachagua.

Kinyua’s resignation came after he voted against the impeachment charges against Gachagua. Earlier, he had apologised to President William Ruto during his visit to Laikipia for voting no on the impeachment motion.
