Update Monday, November 25: The Kenya Railways has issued an update stating that the service disruption on the commuter train service plying the Nairobi CBD-Limuru route will resume on Monday, November 25, at 5:20 pm.

''We hereby inform members of the public that the commuter train that plies the Nairobi CBD - Limuru route will resume operations today evening at 5:20 pm,'' Kenya Railways announced in a statement.

Consequently, the service disclosed that the disruption was occasioned by the night rains caused by a silt deposit on the railway line.

The Kenya Railways Corporation announced on Monday, November 25, that key train service was set to be disrupted affecting a majority of commuters who had hoped to use the service in Nairobi and adjacent areas.

In a statement released by the corporation's management, the train plying the Nairobi CBD to Limuru route would be unavailable on Monday morning.

The corporation noted that the train was suspended due to unavoidable circumstances but did not divulge more details.

‘’We wish to notify members of the public that due to unavoidable circumstances, the train that plies Limuru - Nairobi CBD  route will not run this morning,’’ Kenya Railways management announced in a statement.

However, the management assured travellers of other routes that normal train services were set to run as normal.

''Commuter trains serving Lukenya, Syokimau, Embakasi Village and Ruiru stations will run as per schedule,’’ Kenya Railways added.

''We apologize for any inconvenience caused and will provide updates on service resumption in the course of the day."

Train services have in the past been disrupted over rainfall, especially in the city, with the Kenya Railways forced to halt key operations for services going to other parts of the country.

Nairobi County and adjacent areas have been receiving rains for the better part of Sunday night causing a lot of disruption not only to the rail service but also to the road transport.

The authority did not, however, clarify whether the disruption would affect its commuter services for buses that serve the affected areas.

The announcement is set to affect hundreds of commuters who rely on the train services to report to their various places of work.

However, this is not the first time train services have been disrupted by rain, as the management has previously cited weather conditions as the cause of past service disruptions.
