Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) on Thursday alerted its customers of a delay of its Madaraka Express Passenger Service Train.
In a statement, the corporation notified Kenyans that the train, which was scheduled to depart Mombasa for Nairobi on Thursday at 3:00 pm, would be delayed for 1 hour 40 minutes.
“We wish to inform our customers that we are anticipating a 1 hour 40 minutes delay for the Mombasa to Nairobi afternoon Express train.” the statement read in part.
“The train will depart Mombasa Terminus at 16:40hrs," added the statement.
“The Nairobi to Mombasa afternoon Express train will operate as per the normal schedule,” the statement noted while issuing an apology to users.
The Madaraka Express Passenger Service serves 13 destinations between Mombasa and Suswa stations.
With this delay, passengers are in limbo as their transport plans have been thrown into disarray. Typically, the train takes just over five hours to make the trip and is scheduled to arrive in Nairobi at 8:18 pm.
The Afternoon Express train normally makes a stopover at Voi with passengers enjoying views of Kenya’s scenery including lakes, savannahs, and elephants.
Aside from the afternoon train ride, there is also an Express night train ride from Nairobi to Mombasa as well as another from Mombasa to Nairobi. The train departs both Nairobi and Mombasa train stations simultaneously at 10:00 pm.
The train ride covers an extensive network of routes including Nairobi, Athi River, Emali, Kibwezi, Mtito Andei, Voi, Maisenyi, Mariakani, and Mombasa.
