Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday, December 7, attended the wedding ceremony of Kalonzo Musyoka’s daughter alongside several other opposition heavyweights.
In pictures seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Kalonzo’s daughter Damarie Saada was dressed in a signature white wedding dress as her father walked her down the aisle to marry Martin Nyaga in an outdoor ceremony.
In subsequent photos, Uhuru is also seen interacting with the former Vice President during the event that took place in Naivasha.
Following the wedding, Kalonzo took to social media to express his gratitude to Uhuru for gracing the ceremony and revel in their friendship.
“I thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for his friendship and solidarity with my family by attending the wedding ceremony of our daughter Damarie Saada and Martin Nyaga this afternoon in Naivasha,” Kalonzo wrote on X.
He proceeded to post photographs that showcased other politicians who attended the event including Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and DAP-K Party leader Eugene Wamalwa.
Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti and former Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu were also in attendance.
The rare sighting of the fourth president of Kenya set social media ablaze as Kenyans scrambled to air their views on why his attendance was significant.
“You have seen all the signs now. Murìma (the mountain) is with you now,” one X user wrote.
“The couple in question aren’t in pictures at all, the underpinning is that you Kalonzo, and Uhuru are getting married politically. That’s what you’re trying to highlight,” another insinuated.
In recent months, members of the opposition led by Kalonzo have dropped hints of forming a coalition that will be bigger than Azimio to unseat President William Ruto in 2027.
Even though Wamalwa has expressed interest in vying for the presidency, speculations are still rife that Kalonzo Musyoka will take the helm and vie with the backing of the said coalition.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s name has also been mentioned as a potential contributor to the coalition.
