Former Chief of Staff and Head of the Delivery Unit at the Executive Office of the (4th) President Nzioka Waita was on December 11 named the Managing Director-Africa Advisory at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change.

The former aide to retired President Uhuru Kenyatta landed the senior position at the global body founded by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair who serves as the Executive Chairperson.

While revealing his new position, Nzioka expressed his excitement at joining the firm which he had previously worked as an independent advisor. Nzioka credited his time in government as what first exposed him to the global firm.

“When I took on the Delivery role, it introduced me to a whole new world of thinking, informed in most part by the realpolitik of governance. It is this thinking that brought me to the doorstep of Rt. Hon Tony Blair, former British Prime Minister and Executive Chairperson of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change,” Nzioka stated.

“This brings me to the new, exciting phase of my career in 2024. It is my honour today to announce that I have joined the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change as Managing Director - Africa Advisory,” he announced.

Nzioka revealed his optimism about working at the company to assist in the delivery of their mandate which is centered around leveraging new-age practices to promote global political change.

“I will be privileged to work alongside kindred spirits, a team of like-minded thinkers, doers, and trusted advisors who are committed to supporting political leaders across diverse geographies to execute their mandates effectively whilst leveraging the benefits of technology and the efficient design of their governments for impact and results,” he asserted.

On their part, the Tony Blair Institute conveyed their satisfaction at Nzioka’s arrival to the company acknowledging his years of experience in strategy, policy, and delivery. “We are delighted to announce that Nzioka Waita is joining TBI as our new Managing Director for Africa Advisory,” they noted.

“Recently, he worked with TBI as an independent advisor to support our teams around the world driving radical but practical policy solutions for leaders,” they added.

“Nzioka arrives with skills and capabilities that embody the best of TBI’s value proposition as advisors to political leaders on strategy, policy, and delivery – all enabled by technology. He is the former Chief of Staff to the (former) President of Kenya, a position he assumed after founding the President’s delivery unit,” the global body noted.

Before joining the government, Nzioka worked at a regional telecommunications firm for 14 years which culminated in a senior management position as the Director of Corporate Affairs.

He later entered Uhuru’s government initially as part of a diverse team of presidential advisors at the apex of political decision-making. As the head of the Delivery Unit, his task was to build the vehicle that would become the inflection point between the political promise and the bureaucracy of the government.

Nzioka contested for the Machakos gubernatorial in 2022 but lost to current Governor Wavinya Ndeti. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Sheffield and a Master of Laws in Corporate and Communications Law from the Queen Mary University of London.
