The media landscape in Kenya has experienced notable changes in 2024, and predictably so.
Not only have several revered journalists exited the media scene completely, but some have also decided to take the chance and pursue greener pastures.
With 2025 fast approaching, the new year offers another opportunity for journalists to further their careers and perhaps take greater leaps of faith.
Kenyans.co.ke takes a look at some of the most high-profile media switches by big names in the journalism scene in 2024.
Victoria Rubadiri
Victoria Rubadiri landed a new role in May 2024, ending her tenure at Citizen TV as a senior anchor and reporter and assuming a position at CNN as Africa Correspondent.
She joined the growing list of high-profile media personalities who departed from Royal Media Services after Waihiga Mwaura, Senior Political Editor Francis Gachuri, Chemutai Goin, and Hassan Mugambi all left the station.
Rubadiri's role at CNN focuses on telling stories about emerging and expanding businesses across Africa.
Olive Burrows
The void at Citizen TV which was left by Victoria Rubadiri was ultimately filled by Olive Burrows, an equally talented anchor and reporter.
Burrows left NTV to join Royal Media Services in May 2024, ending her six-year stint with the CBD-based media house.
She has been a permanent fixture on Kenyan screens, building a profile for herself by hosting the morning talk show AM Live and presenting prime-time news.
Shiksha Arora
To the younger generation, Shiksha Arora is a talented dancer who knows how to blend her profession with fun.
However, veteran viewers of the news anchor will appreciate her journey a bit more, especially after her famous switch to TV47 just days after parting ways with the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
Arora’s tenure at KBC was marked by her engaging presence on "Easy Friday" and her dynamic reporting on major events, including national elections and high-profile entertainment stories.
In July, TV47 released a promo announcing they had acquired Shiksha's talents.
Brenda Kerubo
The former KTN News anchor exited the Kenyan media scene after landing a prestigious role with Bloomberg Television, a leading global media organization based in the United States. Kerubo is at Bloomberg as a desk producer.
Jimmy Mbogoh
The former KTN News anchor began 2024 on a high after leaving the Mombasa Road-based station to join Royal Media Services (RMS).
Mbogoh works at Citizen TV as a business reporter.
Jasmine Wambui
Like Mbogoh, Jasmine Wambui also made the switch from KTN to Royal Media Services at the start of 2024. She has been there ever since.
Franklin Wallah
Lead crime journalist, Franklin Wallah had perhaps one of the shortest stints at TV47 as he ditched the station three months after joining.
While the reasons behind his short tenure remained unclear at the time he left in June 2024, he instantly bounced back, joining Citizen TV as a crime and investigations editor.
Michelle Ngele
To sum up the chain of media switches prompted by Victoria Rubadiri's exit from Citizen TV, Michelle Ngele completed the puzzle by replacing Olive Burrows at NTV as a news anchor.
Ngele previously worked as a TV anchor and host at KTN and K24 TV, where she edited and anchored current affairs news bulletins and conducted interviews with notable newsmakers in the country.
