One of the women who stormed a press conference by the Ministry of Health to lament about the new Taifa Care has been arrested, Kenyans.co.ke has learnt.

Grace Mulei was reportedly picked by persons who identified themselves as officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on the evening of Thursday, January 23.

According to Grace's son George, who spoke exclusively to Kenyans.co.ke, his mother was picked up around 4pm at Ladnan Hospital in Pangani, where she had gone to receive treatment for her leg.

CCTV footage has since emerged online showing the officers forcefully escorting Grace to one of their vehicles, before driving away.

George, a former Tahidi High actor, revealed he has been in constant communication with his mother, who was taken to Capitol Hill.

"My mum called me when she was at the hospital," George told Kenyans.co.ke. She was concerned about some people who she claimed were arresting her."

He added, "One of the officers, a lady, identified herself as a DCI officer as they took her away."

The son further revealed that upon inquiring why they were arresting his mother, they were informed she faced charges of causing public disturbance.

On Wednesday, January 15, Grace Mulei went viral alongside other disgruntled patients after storming Afya House to protest glitches in the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) system.

The patients, some with children, disrupted a Ministry of Health media briefing led by Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa and Director General of Health Patrick Amoth which was ironically meant to update Kenyans on the status of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

While detailing their struggles, the patients lamented on the new government medical cover, claiming it was still flawed, months after it was launched.

The drama at Afya House promoted The Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to issue a statement on SHA, as the facility admitted to delays in the system .

Through the hospital's Chief Executive Officer Evanson Kamuri, KNH admitted to a lapse in their systems, but assured the public that it had been rectified the same Wednesday.
