Political activist Bob Njagi, who was abducted in August last year and released after 32 days in captivity, has made a damning revelation.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Wednesday, February 5, Njagi claimed that he had seen the missing Wajir Member of County Assembly (MCA), Yussuf Hussein Ahmed while in captivity.
According to him, the MCA was brought in on a Friday night, September 13, and held in the room next to him. He recalled peeping through the keyhole and seeing a man of Somali origin being brought in at an odd hour.
Although he did not recognise him then, his research upon his release confirmed that the man he had seen was the Wajir MCA whose whereabouts are still unknown.
"The MCA for Wajir County was actually in the room next to where I was. I had the opportunity to peep through the keyhole and saw him on the night he was brought in Friday, September 13. I had been keeping dates since the day I was abducted and I realised someone had been brought in at night which was not normal," Njagi recalled.
"He was placed in the room next to me and I could tell he was a man of Somali origin. Immediately I was released, I did my own research online and realised that on the same day (September 13)there was someone who had been abducted on Enterprise Road and that's the same man who was brought to where we were."
At the time of his release, Njagi confirmed that the Della Anole ward MCA was still alive until he heard reports of his body being found mutilated somewhere in Wajir.
Since the MCA's abduction in September, details surrounding the matter have been shrouded in mystery. From remains suspected to be his being found, to no one taking credit for his abduction, his family and friends remain in the dark about what happened to their kin.
After going missing for about a month, a body matching his description was found in Lake Yakub in Wajir County on October 20, prompting reports that he had met his demise.
However, DNA reports showed that the body did not belong to Ahmed forcing his family to take the court route in pursuit of finding him.
Through the family lawyer Danstan Omari, the family managed to get a court order from High Court Judge Alexander Muteti demanding the MCA be produced dead or alive.
"Results came from the government facility called KEMRI and the doctor who did that analysis is present here. From the bar, the doctor(Oduor) confirmed that the results were negative," Omari revealed during the proceedings on October 24.
"I did personally call the government pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor and told him that this matter is coming before you at 2 and he told me that the report is being typed and the government analyst will be in court today at 2 pm."
Despite the intervention of the court, Ahmed remains missing almost five months later. The Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, has since denied police involvement in the matter.
