Inspector General (IG) of Police Douglas Kanja on Thursday maintained that no arrests have been made so far over the abduction of Wajir member of county assembly (MCA) Yussuf Hussein Ahmed.

While appearing before the National Assembly's Administration and Security Committee, the IG noted that the police were yet to establish the whereabouts of the MCA who went missing on September 13 with investigations into the case ongoing.

“So far, after the report was made to the police, we have been carrying out investigations and this case remains active to date. We have not gotten additional information on the whereabouts of the honourable member of Wajir," he told the committee.

“We are still appealing to the members of the public that any person who has any kind of information can come forward and assist us,” he added.

Wajir MCA Yussef Hussein Ahmed was found dead at Lake Yahud on Sunday, October 20, 2024.

The revelation came after the County Assembly Forum, on October 31, threatened to shut down all operations of 47 county assemblies in two weeks should the government fail to produce the missing MCA.

In a statement to the press, the County Assemblies Forum issued a stern warning to the government and related agencies to produce the MCA of Della Anole Ward dead or alive.

On the day of his abduction, Ahmed was reportedly taken by armed assailants while he was heading to his home in Nairobi.

It was alleged that the attackers were well-coordinated and used firearms during the incident. Following his abduction, there was an immediate outcry from local leaders and residents who condemned the act and called for urgent action from law enforcement agencies.

On October 20, a body believed to be of the MCA was found dumped in Lake Yahud. However, DNA tests carried out on the body did not match that of Yusuf.

Earlier, the Nairobi High Court issued orders for Ahmed who went missing to be produced after the family of Yusuf argued that the government may have deposited the wrong body in Lake Yahud to mislead them or as a cover-up.

The Police IG indicated that they were pursuing leads based on intelligence reports regarding possible leads that would enable security authorities establish Yusuf’s whereabouts.

He disclosed of the 57 abductions recorded in 2024, 22 were solved while 29 are still missing and six victims were found dead.

“All these cases, we are on top of them. At the end of the day, whoever has committed any of these crimes will be brought to book. That is our mission and we are not going to relent on it,” the police boss asserted.
