Simon Muteti, who was reportedly abducted by unknown individuals in October last year, has finally been found alive after months of intensive searching.
The President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Faith Odhiambo, confirmed his whereabouts on Tuesday morning, revealing that Muteti had been found and reunited with his family.
However, the LSK chief noted that despite being found alive, Muteti remains deeply shaken by the harrowing ordeal he endured at the hands of his abductors.
"Simon Muteti has been released after being held incommunicado for more than three months. He is safe with his family but remains petrified by his ordeal," Faith Odhiambo stated.
While making the announcement, Faith Odhiambo pledged to ensure that the victim received both legal and psychological support.
Muteti was reportedly abducted on October 22, 2024, in Timau, Laikipia County, by people believed to be members of the Special Operations Unit (SOU).
The case about his alleged disappearance was made public by LSK in January this year after Muteti's family reached out to the law society for legal aid.
During the same period, another family from Garsen also visited the LSK offices in Nairobi to report that their kin who had been taken into custody at Garsen Police Station went missing on October 5, last year.
According to LSK, the two abduction cases show an alarming trend of enforced disappearances not only in urban centres like Nairobi but across the country.
The latest development comes hardly a month after 24-year-old Billy Mwangi and 22-year-old Peter Muteti were found alive after allegedly being abducted on December 20, last year.
While Billy Mwangi was picked by a good samaritan who handed him over to his family members, Peter Muteti was found alive at the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
Similarly, others who were also found alive on the same day included cartoonist Kibet Bull's brother Rony Kiplagat who was found in Machakos and Benard Kavuli who was found alive in Kitale.
