The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) will officially open its placement portal for the September 2025 university intake in March 2025, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has announced.
In a press statement issued and signed by the CS on Thursday, Ogamba stated that the portal would be opened to allow students to apply for their preferred courses.
The CS confirmed that the portal was already open for the Kenya Medical Training College, Teacher Training Colleges, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions.
"In keeping with the annual placement calendar, the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) will open the placement portal for the September 2025 university intake in March 2025," Ogamba announced.
''Already, the KUCCPS portal has been open since 24th January 2025, for the placement of applicants to the Kenya Medical Training College, Teacher Training Colleges, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions, for the March and May 2025 intakes,''
Cut Off Points
Regarding the issue of cut-off points, which has sparked widespread speculation on social media about possible changes to the system, Ogamba clarified that the government has not reintroduced cut-off points for university admission.
The CS assured the public that all 246,391 students who qualified for direct entry to universities would be admitted.
"The minimum admission requirement for university, which will apply to the 2024 KCSE cohort, is a mean grade of C+ (plus). Therefore, all 246,391 students who attained a mean grade of C+ (plus) and above qualify for university admission," the CS added.
Meanwhile, the CS dismissed claims that funding university education for the 2024 KCSE cohort would cost the government Ksh100 billion.
According to Ogamba, the more than 200,000 students set to join universities in September will require a total of Ksh25.85 billion to fund their education.
"Contrary to reports in sections of the media, it will not cost Ksh100 billion to fund university education for the 2024 KCSE cohort," Ogamba stated.
"The Ministry projects that if all 246,391 candidates join university, Ksh25.85 billion will be required to fund their education annually. The Ksh100 billion projection represents the total cost over a four-year period."
