“Approximately 40 households have been affected, and those with minor burn injuries have received medical attention,” said the Kenya Red Cross.

This is the second fire this month. On February 8, 2025, a devastating fire swept through the Soweto Highrise area of Kibera, leaving over 200 families homeless.

The inferno destroyed hundreds of informal settlements, with residents fleeing for safety as flames engulfed their homes.

Preliminary reports suggest the fire may have been an act of arson, possibly initiated by a disgruntled resident. Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, commonly known as Jalang’o, confirmed the incident and assured that efforts would be made to support the affected families and commence reconstruction.

On January 20, 2025, a fire broke out at Moi Girls High School in Kibera during the evening hours.

The blaze originated in one of the school's buildings, prompting an immediate evacuation of all students.

Fortunately, there were no reported casualties, and the fire was contained with the assistance of three fire engines.

This is not an isolated incident of a fire outbreak in Nairobi.

Last weekend, a fire broke out on the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport's (JKIA) grassland and went on for hours before being contained.

The inferno torched parts of the airport dry land near the runway but did not affect operations.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
