Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Purko Ward, Kajiado, Simon Mumeita Saitoti, has passed away at the age of 42 while undergoing treatment.

Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku confirmed that Saitoti was admitted on February 26, and was scheduled for surgery but remained in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) until he passed away.

“I have received in utter shock the sudden demise of Purko Ward MCA, Hon. Simon Saitoti, at a Nairobi hospital where he was undergoing treatment after a short illness,” Ole Lenku confirmed.

Ole Lenku noted that Saitoti’s death is a great loss not only to his family, friends, and the people of Purko but also to the entire political fraternity in the county.

He described him as a man who exemplified humility and servant leadership since his days in the disciplined forces.

“For the last two and a half years that he served as an elected leader, Hon. Saitoti stood out as a voice of reason and always advocated for diplomacy to resolve any matters that arose in the county,” Ole Lenku added.

Saitoti served as the Minority Whip at the Kajiado County Assembly, having been elected to the 3rd County Assembly on a Wiper Party ticket.

Until his passing, he was a member of several County Assembly committees, namely the House Business Committee, the Roads, Transport, Public Works and Energy Committee, the Trade, Investments and Enterprise Development Committee, and the Rules and Procedures Committee.

Kajiado County Assembly Speaker, Justus Ngossor, also mourned the death of Saitoti stating that the County Assembly has lost a gallant, soldier, a leader, a friend and a colleague. He added that the County Assembly will take the lead in organizing the interment.

“Following the surgery, the member was immediately admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) until yesterday evening, when he passed away,” said the Speaker.

This comes days after former Baringo North MP Willy Rotich Kamuren passed away while receiving treatment in Nairobi on Friday, February 28.

Former Nominated MP Gideon Keter confirmed his death, describing him as a dedicated leader to the residents of Baringo County.

"Saddened by the passing of Hon. Willy Rotich Kamuren, a leader who truly made a difference through his immense dedication to Baringo and Kenya; my thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest well, Mzee," former Nominated MP Gideon Keter stated.
