Members of Parliament (MPs) drawn from both the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have banded together to call for the absorption of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka in the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two parties.
Speaking before President William Ruto on Sunday, Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi and Kapseret's Oscar Sudi stated that this would further push the unity agenda outlined in the MoU.
"As I was present when you were signing that document with Baba, I thought about many things and because the message was that we are fostering the socio-economic and political prosperity of our country, I wanted to urge you to not leave anyone behind," Atandi stated.
"I know there are many leaders out there that are still talking and saying that maybe the President is only interested in a few people. I wanted to urge you that even our brother, this Wiper guy we need to bring him on board. We need to bring everyone on board."
During his address, the lawmaker revealed that he had conferred with his National Assembly counterpart Sudi on the possibility of having the 2027 general as a consensual instead of competitive exercise.
According to him, the President had made a lot of effort to make sure that every Kenyan was included in his leadership, even lauding him for bringing down the cost of living.
On his part, Sudi also called for unity, noting that tribalism did not have a place in the country.
"This issue of tribal politics is stupid. I want to tell the President that what you recently did was a big step in uniting Kenyans. We are all there, even Kalonzo. If it is possible, talk to him," Sudi told the President.
"Talk to everyone. This country belongs to all of us. We should work together. I hear that last year this church's chief guest was Ndindi Nyoro. Tell him the church is progressing smoothly and he should come to launch it in December."
These calls for inclusion come just a few days after President Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga signed an MoU, allowing the two former political rivals to work together in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
During the high-profile event held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Friday, the two teams agreed to, among others, fully implement the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, address youth unemployment, and implement the two-third gender rule.
They also resorted to enhancing unity and inclusivity among Kenyans regardless of their religion and political affiliations, especially in public appointments.
